Variety is the Spice of Life
This old saying is "something that you say which means life is more interesting when it changes often." (Quoted from the Cambridge Idioms Dictionary, 2nd Edition). (According to the American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms by Christine Ammer the original phrase comes from William Cowper's poem "The Task" (1785)).
This classic saying applies to my art as well. From artwork created using traditional art materials such as Pen and Drawing Inks, Oils and Acrylics to images created using the camera or computer, I find working in a variety of mediums not only challenging but very satisfying. I simply love the process and the challenge of creating images of a variety of subjects and utilizing a wide variety of mediums.
It's not unusual that I will have several pieces going at once at different stages of development. I work on them at will, depending on my mood. Some reach the finished stage and become part of my portfolio, while others never see the light of day.
Through each attempted or finished piece, however, I continue to learn something new during the process of creating that can be used in future work.
