Description
ROSEATA SPOONBILLS Writeup thanks to the audubon society field guide
According to the Audubon Society Field Guide "they were very common in parts of the southeast until the 1860s when spoonbills were virtually eliminated from the United States as a side-effect of the destruction of wader colonies by plume hunters. They began to re-colonize in Texas and Florida early in the 20th century. but still remain uncommon and local, vulnerable to degradation of feeding and nesting habitats."
Here in Central Florida they are migratory birds and are with us only during the nesting and mating season
